Summer Reunion 2009

Reunion Report from Gill Jackson (Hinds 1950-55)

The reunion began for some with an evening meal at the Golden Lion in Osmotherly on Friday 26th June, organised by Colin Schofield, for a group of about six of his contemporaries  from the years 1946-51, their partners, and three of mine (47-52) and theirs. It was good to meet folk who had not returned since they left school.

Saturday lunchtime saw 28 OS from the 48/49 year group convening at the Dog and Gun in Potto for the second time in three years. Newly refurbished, we had a splendid lunch in a lovely setting, thanks to the hard work of Ed Thompson and Peter Moore Robinson. The rain which fell throughout was of monsoon proportions.

The official Saturday Evening Do at Stokesley Town Hall was another great success, about sixty-eight attended. Harry Snalam handed over his chain of office to new President, Sue Fox. The food provided by the same firm as last year -Jennifer Swales of Village Caterers, Swainby, was of the same high standard. John Fothergill took over the role of Quizmaster from Jill Wheeler and confounded us with his erudition.

The weather was still dull and showery on the Sunday, when after Morning Meeting we were about 81 strong for the buffet served in the little committee room, with a wide choice of food available. Wendy Armstrong and her husband came to photograph our Dining Room Plaque and was very much taken with another plaque, supposedly commissioned to commemorate the opening of a new classroom block in 1903 – Jane Campbell is on the case. The reunion ended as usual with the AGM, ably chaired by Diz Dexter, preceded by Sue Fox’s amusing and most interesting Presidential Address.
