The chairman, Diz Dexter, welcomed everyone to the meeting, which was held in the Marquee at Whinstone View, giving a special welcome to Richard (Dicky Feather) Featherstone who had played in a concert in Truro on the Saturday night and who left Truro at the crack of dawn on the Sunday, to be in Ayton in time for the AGM. She asked those present to share a short silence to remember John Reader and those Old Scholars who had died during the preceding year and also to send thoughts to those members who, for whatever reason, are experiencing difficult times.
The President Robert Campbell gave his presidential address and the chairman thanked him for sharing his experiences at the time of the School closure.

3. There were no matters arising.
4. Jill Wheeler read the Secretary’s report which reminded everyone that the Committee had, as usual, worked hard and with care to ensure the Association runs smoothly.
5. The Records Secretary’s report, given by Dick Dennis, included many positive statistics. Membership is practically the same this year. The Website has increased yet again to 68 megabytes. and is still averaging over 400 visits daily. Still more information and articles are being posted on the site, including a tribute to John Reader, on which remembrances can be logged.
6. William Pine presented Treasurer’s report. Copies of the accounts were handed out and William then explained the current situation. He told the meeting that there would be a shortfall for this year’s reunion, the final figure would not be known until all the bills had been settled but he thought it could be in the region of £500. However there was still £18,126.39 deposited in the bank although this would change with receipts and bill for the weekend.
7. Editor’s report. Gill Jackson, who has edited the O.S. Magazine for 14 editions, is handing over the Editorship after organizing the 2005 edition. She was pleased to announce that Jim Slater, a 1970s’ Old Scholar would take on the editorial job and it was hoped that Mary Kidd, District Secretary for Scotland, would be able to help him with the news in the future. Gill thanked all the team who worked so hard to ensure Old Scholars received their magazines each year on time. These included Dick Dennis for his work in preparing the finished Mag for handover to the publishers; Suzi Scaife who does all the proof reading and the distribution team of Wendy and Nat Smith assisted by Clifford Weschenfelder, Mary Banks and Roy George.
8. Proposed acceptance of the above four reports. Martyn Gaudie proposed and Douglas Horne seconded and all were in favour.
9. Retirement of Officers. Martyn Gaudie-Ordinary Committee member for the past 4 years. Jenny Summerfield - Reunion Secretary for this year only. Gill Jackson - Editor for the last 14 years. Louis Trotter thanked each member for their hard work reminding the meeting that each person’s input is absolutely vital to ensure the continuation of the Old Scholars’ Association. Gill was singled out for an extra Thank You for her unprecedented stint as Editor.
10. Re-election of Officers willing and able to remain in office: Chairman Diz Dexter (2002-2006); General Secretary Jill Wheeler (2002-2006); Editor Gill Jackson for 1 year; Treasurer William Pine (2001-2005); Records Secretary Dick Dennis (1996-2005) on yearly basis; Ordinary Members Louis Trotter (2002-2006); Convenor of Nominations Committee Sonia Dunn (2000-2005) on a yearly basis; Member of Nominating Committee Diz Dexter (2000-08); Ordinary Members Louis Trotter (2003-2007); School Committee William Pine (2003-2007); Representatives Jill Wheeler (2003-2007). Ann White proposed their re-election and this was seconded by Michael Adam and agreed by those present.
11.

Election of Officers:
(i) Ordinary Committee Members Suzanne Potter and Jim Slater. Proposed by Diz Dexter and seconded by Jenny Summerfield and agreed by all those present.
(ii) Reunion Coordinator. The executive Committee asked that the AGM defer the election of Reunion Coordinator, to allow the committee to discuss this in their September meeting.
This was proposed by Margaret Carnegie (Wilkinson) and seconded by Martyn Gaudie and agreed by those present.

12. Nomination of President Elect: Roy George proposed Maeve Hird, a former editor of the Magazine. This proposal was seconded by Diz Dexter, and welcomed by all present.
13.

Any other business: Jenny Summerfield, in her capacity as this year’s Reunion Coordinator, asked if the Members present would like to comment on the fact that, as tickets for Sunday Lunch had been priced at less than cost and that for the first time Whinstone View had charged a ground rent for the marquee, which was itself more expensive than past years, the 2004 reunion would possibly have a shortfall of about £500. There is a balance of £18,136.29, as reported by the Treasurer, in the 3 bank accounts which, if the loss continued at a similar rate each year would maybe last 35 years. A proposal by Dorothy Newby that the subsidy continues for the present time, was seconded by Douglas Horne and there was an overwhelming support by those present at the Meeting.

Diz thanked Wendy Smith for the quite splendid walk up/around Roseberry Topping on Saturday afternoon. Although the weather had not looked promising at the start, the rain kept off and the twelve dedicated walkers were treated to a ‘Slave Drive’ par excellence.

14.

There being no other business, the meeting closed at 4.00 pm.

Jill Wheeler (Rhodes 1949-56)
